POSITION OVERVIEW:

Stevens Construction is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial operations of the company, its subsidiaries, and related entities. Based in Fort Myers, Florida, this executive leadership role partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team to drive financial performance, support operational excellence, and help guide the company’s continued growth and long-term success.

As the leader of the accounting and finance function, the CFO will oversee all fiscal operations of the organization, including accounting, financial reporting, treasury management, forecasting, budgeting, tax strategy, compliance, internal controls, risk management, and financial planning and analysis. This role serves as a trusted strategic advisor to executive leadership, transforming financial data into actionable insights that support informed decision-making, organizational transformation, and business growth.

The CFO will be responsible for developing and maintaining financial processes, systems, and controls that protect company assets while creating an environment of continuous improvement. Success in this role will be driven by the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational involvement in a fast-paced construction environment, ensuring financial excellence while supporting project operations and overall business performance.

By building strong relationships throughout the organization, the CFO will help create alignment between financial objectives and operational priorities.

In addition to financial leadership responsibilities, the CFO will provide executive oversight and strategic direction for the company’s Human Resources and Information Technology functions, ensuring alignment between operational infrastructure, people strategy, technology initiatives, and organizational goals. Through this cross-functional leadership, the CFO will help strengthen the foundation necessary to support Stevens Construction’s purpose, vision, strategy, and continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership and Strategy

  • Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to support strategic planning, organizational growth, and long-term financial objectives.
  • Provide financial insight, operational analysis, and actionable recommendations to support executive decision-making.
  • Evaluate financial risks and implement strategies to protect company assets and financial health.
  • Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes across the organization.
  • Support operational leaders with financial analysis, project performance metrics, forecasting, and profitability insights.
  • Maintain relationships with banking, surety, insurance, tax, audit, and other external financial partners.
  • Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for Human Resources and Information Technology functions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational needs.
  • Understand and actively contribute to achieving the company's five-year strategic plan and annual business objectives.

Financial and Accounting Operations

  • Oversee all accounting and financial activities for the company and related entities.
  • Ensure reliable, accurate, and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and company reporting deadlines.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve accounting systems, processes, internal controls, and reporting structures.
  • Transform financial and operational data into meaningful insights that support business performance and decision-making.
  • Centralize and standardize transaction processing through clear procedures, expectations, and deliverables.
  • Monitor and proactively manage cash flow, working capital, liquidity, and cash forecasting.
  • Oversee all tax reporting, filings, audits, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support forecasting, work-in-progress reporting, profitability analysis, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive system enhancements, technology implementations, and process improvements that improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

Team Leadership and Organizational Support

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing accounting team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Establish departmental objectives, prioritize initiatives, and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Promote strong cross-functional relationships between accounting, operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, and other departments.
  • Foster a service-oriented culture focused on supporting employees, project teams, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders with professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Create an environment where team members understand how their work contributes to company success and business evolution.

 

  • Understands his/her contribution to achieving the five-year strategic plan and the annual plan.
  • Understands and operates under the company’s SOP’s at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including senior leadership experience within the commercial construction industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in construction accounting, project forecasting, work-in-progress reporting, cash flow management, and financial planning.
  • CPA certification preferred; equivalent executive-level construction finance experience will be considered.
  • Experience leading accounting and finance functions for a growing, multi-entity organization.
  • Proficiency with construction ERP and accounting systems, including system implementations, integrations, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to develop high-performing teams, drive operational excellence, and influence decision-making at the executive level.
